Terms of Service

1. Who can use didao

You must be at least 13 years old, or older if the law where you live requires it. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in secure and for activity on your account.

2. Before launch

didao is in development and is not publicly available. Test builds and the website may change, break, or be withdrawn at any time. We don't promise a release date, specific features, platforms or prices until we announce them. Joining the launch-news list means we'll email you about the launch; it is not a purchase or a reservation. Any waitlist offer will be described, with its conditions, when it becomes available.

3. Your writing

You keep all rights to the text, images, voice recordings and other content you give didao (“your content”). You give Dao Labs permission to use, store and transmit your content only as needed to provide the features you use, including sending it to our AI service provider when you ask for help, as described in the privacy policy. We don't use your content for advertising. You confirm you have the right to share the content you submit, including messages or screenshots from other people.

4. AI suggestions

didao's suggestions, explanations, examples, voice-input transcriptions and AI pronunciation audio are generated by AI. They can be inaccurate, unnatural, incomplete or inappropriate for your situation. Review a suggestion before you use it; you are responsible for what you send. didao is a language-learning tool, not professional translation, interpretation, legal, medical or other advice. Don't rely on it where a mistake could cause harm.

5. Acceptable use

Don't use didao to break the law or to harass, threaten, defraud or harm anyone; to create or share content that is illegal or infringes someone else's rights; to probe, disrupt or overload our systems; to get around usage limits, payment or security measures; or to copy, scrape, resell, reverse-engineer or build a competing product from didao, except where the law allows it.

6. Subscriptions

didao is planned as a subscription called didao Plus. When it's available, purchases, renewals, trials, cancellations and refunds are handled by the app store you buy through (for example Google Play) under that store's terms. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel in the store's settings. Deleting your didao account or the app does not cancel a subscription. Prices and trial terms are shown before you buy. Some features, such as didao AI voice, require an active subscription.

7. Our rights

didao, including its software, design, the didao name and logo, the DaoDao character and artwork, recordings and text, is owned by Dao Labs, Inc. and protected by law. While you follow these terms, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the didao app and keyboard on devices you own or control. Third-party components, such as dictionary data and fonts, are provided under their own licences, listed in the app. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without obligation to you.

8. Other services

didao relies on services from other companies, including Google sign-in, app stores, payment and subscription providers (Google Play, RevenueCat), hosting (Supabase, Cloudflare) and our AI provider (Alibaba Cloud Model Studio). The privacy policy lists them. Their own terms and policies also apply to your use of them. We aren't responsible for services we don't control.

9. Ending your use

You can stop using didao at any time, and you can request account deletion. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if required by law, or if we stop offering didao, and we'll tell you when we reasonably can. Sections that by their nature should continue, such as 7, 10, 11 and 12, survive.

10. No warranties

To the extent the law allows, didao is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise that didao will be uninterrupted, error-free or that it will improve your language skills by any particular amount.

11. Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, Dao Labs is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of didao. Our total liability for any claim about didao is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for didao in the 12 months before the claim or US$100. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you, and nothing here limits rights you have under law that can't be waived.

You agree to cover Dao Labs's reasonable losses and costs from claims by others caused by your content or your breach of these terms, to the extent the law allows.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you and Dao Labs consent to their jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you keep any protections that the law of your country gives you and can't be waived.

13. Changes and contact

We may update these terms as didao changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is material, we'll give notice, for example on this site or in the app, before it takes effect. If you keep using didao after that, the new terms apply. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and Dao Labs about didao.
